Goaltender Simon Zajicek spent the first six seasons of his hockey career with the HC Litvinov in the Czech Extraliga League from 2019 to 2025. In May 2025, the Boston Bruins signed the 6’2″ goaltender to a one-year contract. Zajicek played in 90 games and posted a 36-48-0 record with a 2.68 GAA and a .912 save percentage during his tenure with Litvinov.

While he never got called up to play in the National Hockey League last season, Zajicek was a solid backup to Michael DiPietro in the American Hockey League with the Providence Bruins. Today, general manager Don Sweeney signed Zajicek to a one-year, two-way contract extension for the upcoming 2026-27 season, with an AAV of $850,000.

Zajicek’s 2025-26 season in Providence was an excellent one as a backup goaltender. In 21 games, Zajicek posted a 14-6-1 record with a 2.44 GAA and a .915 save percentage. Zajicek will turn 25 in two days and will look to be better next season. Zajicek made an immediate impact in Providence’s lineup by winning ten of his first 12 AHL starts, including a stretch of six consecutive wins from November into December. Zajicek was a reliable backup goaltender whom Providence could turn to when DiPietro needed rest or was in a slump.

Sweeney has locked up another young goaltender on the rise to a new contract this offseason. Now, Sweeney will have more work ahead of him with the 2026 NHL Draft beginning in three days, along with free agency work needing to be done as well.
