The Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) Mannheim Eagles are reporting that they’ve made a significant addition to their roster by signing veteran forward Patrick Brown, formerly the captain of the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins. Brown, a 34-year-old native of Michigan, brings a wealth of experience from both the AHL and the National Hockey League.

Brown spent the majority of his professional hockey career within the Carolina Hurricanes organization, playing primarily for their top minor-league affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers. After leaving the Hurricanes franchise, Brown made stops in Philadelphia with the Flyers and in Ottawa with the Senators before signing as a free agent with Boston before the 2023-24 regular season.

During his tenure in Providence, Brown appeared in 169 games, amassing an impressive 132 points with 48 goals and 84 assists. His most productive season came in the 2025-26 campaign, when he tallied 20 goals and 34 assists for 54 points across 71 games, establishing himself as a reliable and impactful leader on and off the ice. At the NHL level, Brown suited up for 26 games with the Boston Bruins, contributing two assists. Throughout his professional career, he appeared in 164 NHL games, compiling 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points.

Before his professional career, Brown stood out as a forward at Boston College, where he went undrafted post-NCAA hockey career and achieved the pinnacle of AHL success by winning the Calder Cup with the Charlotte Checkers. His leadership qualities and extensive experience are expected to be invaluable assets for the Mannheim Eagles as they pursue DEL success.

Brown will also be reunited with former Providence Bruins defenseman Dan Renouf, who joined the Mannheim Eagles last season after a successful North American career. Renouf has quickly become an integral part of the Eagles’ blue line while only contributing 2-13-15 numbers in his first 51 games in another country.

Former North American bench boss and current Sports Manager/Head Coach for the Mannheim team, Dallas Eakins, shared the quotes below, welcoming the former Providence Bruin to the German team. While the official departure from the Boston Bruins has yet to be announced, with the team thanking Patrick for his services, we’ll go with this report for now on this overseas player transaction. The two quotes below are from the official release from the DEL Mannheim Eagles website and can be seen HERE for credit.

“We are thrilled to welcome Patrick to our team. Patrick’s decision to join our organization reflects the culture that has been built within our club by our players, coaching staff, management, and owner. Patrick had numerous offers from North America and Europe, but ultimately he chose an environment that prioritizes teamwork, inclusion, and a shared commitment to helping each other achieve excellence,” said Sports Manager and Head Coach Dallas Eakins.

“Patrick brings a wealth of leadership experience, a strong two-way game, offensive firepower, and the fighting spirit our fans appreciate. He’s a player who leads by example every day and continually makes the people around him better. We’re confident that Patrick and his family will be an excellent fit for us, and we’re excited to see the impact he’ll have both on and off the ice,” said Eakins about the new signing.
