Coming into the 2025-2026 Boston Bruins season, there was significant pressure on Morgan Geekie. After setting a career high with 33 goals and signing a six-year deal worth $33 million, questions remained regarding whether the forward could repeat that same level of production.
Geekie responded again, carving out his fifth straight campaign with a new career high in lamp lighters and total points. As Geekie ended the 2026 season with 39 goals and 68 points.
With now three seasons under his skates in Boston, the Black and Gold have come to expect Geekie to be a prominent part of the team’s offensive attack. But Bruins fans are still curious about what the forward’s goal-scoring ceiling is and how he could improve to reach his full offensive potential.
David Pastrnak, who has played with Geekie a lot at even strength and on the power play since the forward came to Boston in 2024, has spoken highly of Geekie. The dynamic winger made it very clear this past season that he believes in his teammate’s talent.
“He has everything to score 50 (goals) in this league,” Pastrnak told the media last October. “I keep telling him, keep reminding him. He has a heck of a shot.”
That is certainly high praise coming from a world-class talent like Pastrnak. And Geekie has proven, with 72 goals over the past two seasons, that his one-timer and wrister are a problem for NHL goaltenders.
But Geekie has one big aspect to improve on to become an even more elite NHL goal scorer: consistency. Obviously, every player will experience scoreless stretches. But Geekie has been a very streaky scorer, even accounting for his back-to-back 30-goal campaigns.
In 2025, he struggled at the start of the year, scoring only two goals in his first 22 games. But he was one of the most prolific scorers from December through the end of the season, including a six-game goal streak to end the year.
2026 saw similar extreme hot-and-cold periods from Geekie. He potted 33 goals in his first 57 games but managed only six in the remaining 24.
And getting more consistent offensively does not just apply to how many times he finds the back of the net. There were too many games last season when Geekie finished with one or zero attempts on net. That should be a rare occurrence for a player with a shot as accurate and potent as Geekie’s.
While it may be too much to expect him to score 50 goals next season, there is no reason to doubt Geekie’s ability to score 35-40 goals over his prime years with the Bruins. He has grown and developed his game immensely since coming to Boston. Especially considering he has been slotted up and down the lineup over the past two seasons, without it negatively impacting his performance.
If Geekie can improve on limiting extreme goal-less streaks and consistently fire pucks on net, even during scoring slumps, he will be an even greater asset for Boston. Geekie has developed into a 30-goal scorer, and he has the talent to become a consistent 40-goal scorer.
