After a quiet few days of National Hockey League free agency, the Boston Bruins have made another signing. Today, the Boston Bruins announced that they have signed forward Riley Duran to a one-year, two-way contract extension through the 2026-27 season, with an AAV of $850,000.
A native of Woburn, Massachusetts, Duran was drafted by the Bruins with the 182nd overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. Duran played three seasons at Providence College from 2021 to 2024 and recorded 55 points in 102 games. Since being drafted, Duran has played only two NHL games for the Bruins, both in April 2025, and has recorded no points with a -1 rating. Duran has been an American Hockey League mainstay with the Providence Bruins over the past two seasons, but has been improving his game slowly at 24 years old. In 143 career AHL games, Duran has recorded 39 points. Duran first showed strides in the AHL when he scored a career-high 12 goals for Providence during the 2024-25 season.
However, the 2025-26 AHL season was Duran’s best in his career. Duran recorded career-highs of 12 assists, 19 points, and a +19 rating while playing in all 72 games for Providence. Duran’s +19 rating was fourth among all Providence forwards behind Patrick Brown, Riley Tufte, and Matej Blumel. Two of Duran’s seven goals this past season were game-winning goals, and he also scored one shorthanded goal.
