This offseason, the Providence Bruins have seen departures from their roster. Captain Patrick Brown left to sign overseas in Germany. Fabian Lysell was traded to the Colorado Avalanche at the 2026 National Hockey League Draft. Riley Tufte signed with the New Jersey Devils, and Michael Callahan signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Now, another loss up front has hit the roster. Recently, it was announced that forward Matej Blumel has signed overseas with HC Sparta Praha in Czechia. Blumel’s contract is for four years.

Blumel, 26, is a native of Tabor, Czech Republic. Blumel signed a one-year contract with the Boston Bruins last offseason. Blumel mainly played in the American Hockey League in Providence, where he had a solid season. Blumel recorded 52 points in 58 AHL games for Providence during the 2025-26 season. Blumel’s 21 goals were the third-most on Providence’s roster, and his 31 assists were tied for the third-most on the roster along with Matthew Poitras.

Despite the Springfield Thunderbirds upsetting Providence in four games in the Atlantic Division Semifinals, Blumel’s two goals during the 2026 AHL Playoffs led Providence. Blumel played in four games for the Boston Bruins in the regular season but recorded no points and finished with a -3 rating. In his NHL career with the Dallas Stars and Bruins, Blumel recorded just two goals in 17 games. In his AHL career, Blumel recorded 230 points in 255 games. Providence loses speed, skill, and offensive attack with Blumel’s departure.
