For the second consecutive season, the Boston Bruins will have at least two prospects skating on the US Collegiate Selects roster at the Spengler Cup. After announcing Elliott Groenewold’s addition to the Selects’ initial six-man roster as part of the second wave last week, Dean Letourneau joined the team on Thursday afternoon alongside Cornell defenseman Xavier Veilleux.
Letourneau joins Groenewold on a Collegiate Selects roster loaded with NCAA firepower, including Michigan’s Michael Hage and Jayden Perron, Hobey Baker winner Max Plante, and last year’s national leading goalscorer Hayden Stavroff. Like those above, Letourneau and Groenewold are among college hockey’s top players, and both currently lead their rosters in scoring at their positions.
The Collegiate Selects team debuted at the Spengler Cup last year, with Bruins prospects Ryan Walsh and Chris Pelosi both seeing game action as they made a surprise run to the final, defeating Davos and HC Sparta Praha before falling to the hosts 6-3 in the rematch title game.
After today’s announcement, the Collegiate Selects’ roster is up to 13 players, with 12 spots for UNH head coach Mike Souza and his staff to fill before the puck drops in Switzerland. The tournament will be held at the Eisstadion Davos, starting on Boxing Day and concluding on New Year’s Eve.
