Boston hockey fans should get excited at the prospect of Sarah Marchand. Not only would she join the Boston Fleet as skilled offensive forward; she would also bring back the #63 to Boston. Though she has no apparent relation to Boston Bruins legend Brad Marchand, she’ll wear his number in training camp this November.
Marchand went undrafted in the Professional Women’s Hockey League Entry Draft in both 2025 and 2026, leaving her a free agent. The Boston Fleet capitalized on that by bringing her in as one of their seven invites for their 2026 Training Camp.
The 23-year-old from Ontario, Canada, played four years of Division I Ice Hockey, spending two seasons at Syracuse University and two at St. Lawrence University. In 78 games for the Saints, she put up 59 points.
After her collegiate career, Marchand signed with MoDo Hockey in Sweden, where she immediately helped the team offensively. During the 2025-26 season, she recorded 25 points in her 36 games.
Marchand currently works as a skills coach in Windsor, ON. Her company, R1nk R3ady, is a nod to the number she once wore, #13. She uses all of her experience to help mentor younger players into future pros like herself.
According to an article in the Windsor Star by Jim Parker, Marchand is fully focused and committed to earning a spot on a PWHL roster. “This year, I’m fully invested..this is what I want to do and seems there’s more interest,” she said.
Marchand is known for her playmaking abilities, which is something that the Boston Fleet could benefit from. Offense was a struggle for them last season, with many of their games being decided by just one goal, so any offensive depth will help fill out the roster nicely.
Marchand can be that player, especially with Head Coach François Methot’s strong background in development. He’ll be relied on heavily to take good players and make them even stronger by allowing them to fit and grow into the system he lays out in Boston.
She’d be on the younger side of the Fleet’s forward corps, allowing her to learn from the veterans. She could provide strong relief in case of injury and fill out the depth desperately needed for a playoff push.
When Marchand first signed with MoDo she spoke about wanting to build defensively. This is another area where the Fleet could use her and help alleviate minutes placed on Megan Keller and Haley Winn. They got some help from the draft, but as stated above, depth will be key in creating a successful Fleet season
Marchan is a strong target heading into training camp, and the hope is that she’ll slot in well with the team and prove herself worthy of a spot. There is definitely a need for her if she can contribute in a depth forward role.
