Boston Bruins long-time defenseman Kevan Miller has announced his retirement from the NHL on his Instagram account this morning. Miller has been battling various injuries since joining the Bruins in 2013. The worst of those injuries came in the 2018-2019 season, where Miller broke his kneecap at the end of the season. After trying to get healed up in time for the Stanley Cup finals, Miller would again break the same kneecap. Miller went through extensive surgeries and rehabs but to no avail. He missed the entire 2019-2020 season.
In what was the strangest off-season in NHL history due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Kevan Miller earned himself a one-year contract with the Bruins to reclaim his career. Miller once again would be in and out of the lineup dealing with injuries. He also was a healthy scratch at times to avoid any potential injuries. This isn’t the way any player wants to have his NHL career end at 33-years-old when you have plenty of gas left in the tank. Unfortunately, Miller’s body won’t allow him to do that. “I will miss the small things. The pre-game rituals, the group chats, post-practice shenanigans, thank you to all of my teammates past and present.” Miller said. This is a man who bleeds black and gold.
Miller went undrafted but was able to secure a try-out with the Providence Bruins. He made his debut in the 2013-2014 season and played his last game on May 21st, 2021. In that time, he amassed 352 games-played totaling 71 points, and was a career plus-79. Miller was a solid heavy-hitting defenseman in his time with the Bruins and will be missed by all. We here at Black N Gold Hockey wish Kevan Miller nothing but success in his future endeavors. You will always be forever a Bruin.
