The Boston Bruins will have some new coaches behind the bench, and they will be some familiar faces to fans. Chris Kelly and Adam McQuaid have joined the B’s staff. On Friday, the team announced that Kelly would be an assistant coach, and McQuaid has been named a Player Development Coordinator. Kelly was originally hired as a Player Development Coordinator and has now made the jump to assistant coach. Maybe McQuaid could find himself in a similar role soon?
This news comes a couple of months after Jay Pandolfo took a coaching job with Boston University and Jay Leach joined the Seattle Kraken coaching staff after being the head coach of the Providence Bruins. While those are great losses, Boston did a good job replacing them.
Kelly and McQuaid should provide some great experience as part of the 2011 Stanley Cup-winning team. If anyone knows what it takes to win, it’s those guys.
Boston also made another move. Ryan Mougenel has been named Head Coach of the Providence Bruins. Mougenel is the 13th head coach in the history of the AHL franchise.
Mougenel has served as an assistant coach for Providence since the beginning of the 2018-19 season. Over the last three seasons, since Mougenel joined the baby Bruins, the AHL side has recorded a record of 91-51-21, captured two consecutive Atlantic Division titles, and set a new regular-season franchise record with 12 consecutive wins to conclude the shortened 2019-20 season.
Having Kelly and Bruce Cassidy behind the bench will surely have Bruins fans excited for the upcoming season. Let’s see how far the B’s can go with this new coaching staff.
