Last off-season, the Boston Bruins signed forward Morgan Geekie to a two-year $4 million contract as a restricted free agent. The former Carolina Hurricanes third-round pick did not disappoint, having the best year of his career during the 2023-24 season.

In 76 games, he posted a line of 17-22-39, all of which were career highs. Geekie has proven he can be productive offensively at every level he’s played at and looks to take another step going into the 2024-25 campaign.

After proving to be an important depth piece for Boston last season, playing multiple roles, Geekie looks to build on a great opportunity. The right-shooting forward can effectively play both center and wing and has proven he can line up with any type of player. His hard-nosed forechecking style makes him compatible, and his high energy on the ice can be contagious.

This will be Geekie’s fourth full season in the NHL, and his maturity will likely grow even more. He had multiple stretches last year where he flashed. That included centering the first line when Pavel Zacha missed a brief stretch with an injury last December. That also resulted in him being bumped up to the top power-play unit.

Geekie was a catalyst in the playoffs last season, throwing his body around and entering the dirty areas. He was in the lineup for all 13 of the Bruins’s playoff games and had a line of 4-1-5 with an even plus-minus. His intensity makes him built to play in the playoffs, and at 6’3″, he is a physical presence on the ice. He’s the type of player who can get his team going by making just one play.

If Geekie even slightly improves his numbers this season, it would make him a 20-plus goal scorer, which you can never have enough of. Head coach Jim Montgomery is known for juggling his lines game to game, so it will be interesting to see where Geekie slots in the lineup. With the addition of Elias Lindholm in the off-season, Geekie will likely play the wing on the second or third line.

At the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, Geekie will be a restricted free agent. The Bruins will have control of him in the off-season, but the ball is in his court regarding a new contract. This should motivate the 26-year-old to take another step and take his game to the next level. Doing so could result in a long-term contract to stay in Boston following this year.
