It appears Bruins prospect Cole Chandler will be arriving in Boston sooner than expected… as a member of the Northeastern Huskies. According to Northeastern Hockey Blog, Chandler has committed to the Hockey East Program for the 2026-2027 NCAA season, and will return to the Shawinigan Cataractes of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League next year. This reported commitment is the latest in the wave of players leaving the Canadian Hockey League to play College Hockey, after a recent NCAA rule change, making major junior players eligible to play at the Collegiate level.

A native of Bedford, Nova Scotia, Chandler was selected 133rd overall by the Bruins in this summer’s National Hockey League Entry Draft. Chandler had 32 points in 64 regular-season games with the Cataractes, including 13 goals. His play hit another level in the postseason, where he recorded 12 points in 16 games. The year prior, Chandler was limited to just 25 regular-season games, where he had ten points. A left-handed shot, Chandler can play both center and the wing, and stands at 6’2″, 176 pounds.

Northeastern finished with a 14-20-3 record last season and was ninth in Hockey East. The Huskies’ season ended in a Semifinal loss to the eventual Hockey East Champion, the University of Maine Black Bears, at TD Garden. Getting a commitment from Chandler should be a big boost for Northeastern, and will give plenty of opportunities for the Bruins’ front office to watch their newest fifth-round pick play in person.
