USA Hockey announced today that Bruins’ defenseman Charlie McAvoy and goaltender Jeremy Swayman will partake in the U.S. Men’s Olympic Orientation Camp ahead of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. This event, which will feature no formal on-ice events, will run from August 26 to 27 and feature 44 NHL players. The camp is set to take place in Plymouth, Michigan, the home of the USA’s National Team Development Program.
McAvoy, who was named to the Olympic roster on June 16 as part of the first six members, has never represented the U.S. at the Olympic level. He has appeared in six international events, winning Gold at the U18 Men’s World Championship in 2015 and the IIHF World Junior Championship in 2017. Most recently, the Long Beach, New York, native was a member of the 4 Nations Face-Off roster last February.
Swayman has represented the United States four times, most recently at the 2025 IIHF World Championship. The Anchorage, Alaska, native backstopped the U.S. to a Gold Medal with a 1.69 goals against average and a shutout in the final. Swayman, like McAvoy, was a member of the 4 Nations Face-Off roster, where he did not appear in a game. He is one of four goaltenders invited to the orientation camp.
According to USA Hockey’s press release from today, the final 25-man roster for the Olympics will be announced in early January. The Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 will be the first time NHL players will be invited to the tournament since 2014, where the United States finished fourth. The U.S. will begin play in Group C on February 12 against Latvia at 3:10 p.m. EST.
