There’s no way around it, this past week was a fantastic one for the Bruins’ prospect pool. Whether it was B’s prospects in the American Hockey League, NCAA, USHL, or Europe, many of the Bruins’ youngsters produced. This week also featured multiple on and off-ice milestones. So how did everybody do?
Europe
Vashek Blanar this week for HV71 U20 (U20 Nationell): One game played, no points, two penalty minutes, -2 rating.
Blanar made his long-rumored NCAA commitment this week, announcing he will play at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst next season. He’s the 2nd B’s prospect to go from the U20 Nationell to the Minutemen, along with Dans Locmelis.
Liam Pettersson this week for Vaxjo Lakers U20 (U20 Nationell): Two games played, no points, two penalty minutes, +1 rating.
Kirill Yemelyanov this week for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl (MHL): One game played, one goal, no penalties, Even Plus/Minus.
Juniors
Cole Chandler this week for the Shawinigan Cataractes (QMJHL): Two games played, no points, no penalties, +1 rating.
Cooper Simpson this week for the Youngstown Phantoms (USHL): Two games played, one goal, two assists, eight penalty minutes, +1 rating.
Simpson continues his electric start to the season, with three points. He’s second on Youngstown in scoring behind Sabres prospect Ryan Rucinski, and third in USHL scoring.
NCAA
Elliott Groenewold this week for Quinnipiac University (ECAC): Two games played, one goal, one assist, no penalties, +1 rating.
Groenewold buried the game-winning goal against Stonehill on Saturday, saving Quinnipiac from a potential upset. Unfortunately, the Vermont native was not named to Team USA’s preliminary roster for the World Junior Championship.
James Hagens this week for Boston College (Hockey East): One game played, three goals, no penalties, +3 rating.
Hagens had a hat trick for BC on Friday against Notre Dame, enough to earn him Hockey East Co-player of the week honors along with Islanders prospect Cole Eiserman. To no surprise, Hagens was also named to Team USA’s preliminary roster for the World Junior Championship today.
Beckett Hendrickson this week for the University of Minnesota (Big Ten): One game played, two assists, two penalty minutes, +1 rating.
The Minnetonka, Minnesota, native helped lead the Golden Gophers to an upset victory over Denver on Saturday.
Kristian Kostadinski this week for Boston College (Hockey East): One game played, no points, no penalties, Even Plus/Minus.
Mason Langenbrunner this week for Harvard University (ECAC): Two games played, one assist, no penalties, -2 rating.
Dean Letourneau this week for Boston College (Hockey East): One game played, one goal, two assists, no penalties, +2 rating.
Letourneau had a three-point effort against the Fighting Irish on Friday, bringing him up to 6-8-14 in as many games. It’s been a remarkable sophomore season for Letourneau, who has seen his offensive production explode.
William Moore this week for Boston College (Hockey East): One game played, no points, no penalties, Even Plus/Minus.
Jonathan Morello this week for Boston University (Hockey East): One game played, no points, four penalty minutes, Even Plus/Minus.
Casper Nassen this week for Miami (OH) University (NCHC): Two games played, one goal, one assist, no penalties, Even Plus/Minus.
Nassen buried his third goal of the season against Union on Saturday, helping lead the RedHawks to the Friendship Four Championship in Belfast.
Chris Pelosi this week for Quinnipiac University (ECAC): Two games played, one goal, two assists, no penalties, -2 rating.
Philip Svedeback this week for Providence College (Hockey East): 1-1-0 record, .944% save percentage, 1.50 goals-against average.
Svedeback earned Hockey East Goalie of the Week honors, helping Providence earn a split on the road against Colorado College.
Ryan Walsh this week for Cornell University (ECAC): One game played, one assist, no penalties, +1 rating.
Will Zellers this week for the University of North Dakota (NCHC): Two games played, two goals, no penalties, Even Plus/Minus.
Zellers scored the overtime winner on Saturday against Bemidji State and had another goal on Friday. Unfortunately he was not named to the United States preliminary roster for the World Junior Championship.
Providence and Maine
Providence will wrap up a four-game Canadian road trip tomorrow night against the Laval Rocket, and so far this trip has been all about Fabian Lysell. After missing some time due to injury, Lysell has six points in three games on the road trip, including a ridiculous highlight reel goal against the Toronto Marlies on Wednesday. In 16 games this season, Lysell has 9-9-18. The P-Bruins went 3-0-0 this week with a win over Toronto and two wins over the Belleville Senators.
Meanwhile, the Maine Mariners won both their games this weekend against the Norfolk Admirals. Luke Cavallin got the start on Friday and stopped 23 of 25 shots in a 3-2 win.
