According to a report from Jimmy Murphy of RG Media, the Bruins have made a legit offer for Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson. Andersson, 29, has been rumored to have been on the trade block for quite some time now, and with how thin the Bruins’ right-hand defensemen depth is, there’s not much surprise they’ve made an offer.
According to the report, the Bruins’ offer consisted of defenseman Mason Lohrei and their own first-round draft pick in the 2026 draft — they have two, thanks to the trade for Brandon Carlo, with their second first-round pick coming from Toronto. The report specified their own pick is the one at play here, and as of my writing this, the Bruins currently sit with the 14th overall pick, and their pick from Toronto sits at 16th overall.
Andersson has played 46 games so far with Calgary this season, and has registered 10-19-29 in that time. In the scenario that he ends up in Boston, he’d come in and immediately both the Bruins’ highest scoring defenseman in both goals and points.
Important to Note
There are a couple important factors at play here. Andersson is an unrestricted free agent at season’s end, meaning he’ll need a contract. And there have been rumblings that he’s seeking a contract with a hefty pay increase from his current annual average value of $4.55 million.
Additionally, Andersson is represented by Claude Lemieux, the same agent that represents Hampus Lindholm. Lindholm, who was acquired at the 2022 trade deadline, and the next day after acquisition, the Bruins signed him to an eight-year contract. Andersson also has some history with a current Bruins defender, and that’s Nikita Zadorov.
The two played in Calgary together for a total of 170 games, and they were a solid pairing. They were on ice for more goals for rather than against, more shots for than against. Andersson has a six-team no trade clause, so having a familiar defensive partner could potentially sway a trade.
