Forward Riley Tufte joined the Boston Bruins organization before the 2024-25 season. Tufted spent the majority of his Bruins tenure in the American Hockey League with the Providence Bruins, and he was one of the team’s most important players on the roster. Now, more changes are coming to Providence.
Today, Tufte signed a one-year contract with the New Jersey Devils. Providence has seen changes up front this offseason, including the loss of captain Patrick Brown and the trade of Fabian Lysell. Now, Tufte is no longer a Bruin.
Since being drafted 25th overall by the Dallas Stars in the 2016 National Hockey League Draft, Tufte hasn’t gotten much NHL experience. Tufte first gained NHL experience during the 2021-22 season and has recorded four points in 28 career games. Tufte scored just one goal in ten NHL games in Boston. Tufte played in four NHL games for the Bruins this past season, all in November. Things appeared to be on the right track when Tufte scored a goal in his season debut against the Carolina Hurricanes, but he didn’t get 12 minutes of ice time in the next three games he played.
Tufte was a huge part of Providence’s roster over the past two seasons, recording 98 points in 122 games. In the 2025-26 season, Tufte was a major part of Providence’s offense, leading the team with 32 goals and ranking second on the roster with 56 points. In the 2026 Calder Cup Playoffs, Tufte scored just one goal in four games, as Providence was upset in the Atlantic Division Semifinals by the Springfield Thunderbirds. At 28 years old, Tufte is joining his fourth different NHL team in a decade.
