The Boston Bruins have announced the signing of free agent goaltender Jiri Patera to a one-year, two-way contract that carries an NHL salary cap hit of $850,000. The deal adds depth and competitive experience to the Bruins’ goaltending ranks for the upcoming season.

Patera, a 6-foot-3, 212-pound native of Praha, Czechia, brings a wealth of experience from both the American Hockey League (AHL) and brief stints in the NHL. Originally drafted in the sixth round (161st overall) of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Vegas Golden Knights, Patera has steadily developed his game in North America over the past several years.

Last season, the 27-year-old netminder played for the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks, appearing in 30 games and compiling a 12-14-2 record. He posted a solid 2.63 goals-against average (GAA) and a .910 save percentage, numbers that reflect his reliability and ability to handle a heavy workload at the professional level. Patera also made a single NHL appearance for the Vancouver Canucks in the 2025-26 season, playing 56 minutes but suffering a tough outing in which he allowed seven goals and took the loss.

Across his AHL career, Patera has suited up for 122 games, recording a 51-56-12 record with a 2.84 GAA and a .907 save percentage. His professional experience and strong frame make him an intriguing addition to the Bruins’ depth chart, whether as a potential call-up or a steady presence at the AHL level with Providence.
