Earlier this week, the Maine Mariners re-signed forward Linus Hemstrom and announced yesterday that Burke Cherrie will be the team’s new Chief Executive Officer. Today, news surrounding forward Sebastian Vidmar arrived. While Vidmar won’t be returning to the ice to play hockey at 32 years old, the Mariners announced that he will be the team’s new Community & Player Relations Coordinator.
“I want to be a part of the journey ahead, for the Mariners and for the growth of hockey across Maine,” Vidmar said.
Since the 2023-24 ECHL season, Vidmar has been part of the Mariners’ organization. Since arriving, Vidmar’s impact on Maine’s roster has been crucial. Vidmar’s contribution helped the Mariners reach the Kelly Cup Playoffs in 2024 and 2026. This past season was Vidmar’s best season in Maine. In 59 games, Vidmar’s 18 assists and 30 points were each a career high as a Mariner, and his +13 rating was a career high for him in a single ECHL season. Vidmar’s 30-point season was his first since the 2022-23 season.
Vidmar was a respected leader, serving as an alternate captain for Maine over the past two seasons. Vidmar recorded 67 points in 143 games as a Mariner. Now, Vidmar has a new role to embrace as the Mariners’ new Community & Player Relations Coordinator.
