The Providence Bruins will begin preseason play with a home-and-home series against the Springfield Thunderbirds next Friday and Saturday night, before their American Hockey League regular-season opener on Oct. 2 against the Utica Comets. Before the team returns to action, Providence has made a new signing. Today, Providence signed forward Robert Cronin to a one-year AHL contract.
Cronin, 26, is a native of Plymouth, Massachusetts. From 2021 to 2025, Cronin played college hockey at the University of New Hampshire. During the 2024-25 season, Cronin made his ECHL debut, recording eight points in 13 games for the Maine Mariners. Last season, Cronin’s game in Maine grew tremendously.
Cronin’s 37 assists and 56 points were each the third-most on the Mariners’ roster, and his 19 goals tied for third with Max Andreev. Cronin’s +13 rating was also tied for second among forwards on the Mariners’ roster. Cronin’s game grew more when he recorded ten points and played in all 14 games for the Mariners during the 2026 Kelly Cup Playoffs. In a valiant effort, Cronin recorded a two-point game in the Mariners’ Game 7 loss to the Wheeling Nailers in the North Division Finals.
In just one full season in the ECHL, Cronin made an incredible jump and should be excited to grow even more next season. Cronin has never played an AHL game. However, Cronin’s play in Maine last season should give Providence excitement heading into this season.
