The Boston Bruins announced this afternoon that they have placed forward Michael Eyssimont on waivers for the purpose of assignment to the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins. Eyssimont, a native of Littleton, Colorado, has not appeared in a game for the Bruins this season, after registering 18 points in 56 games with the team last year.

There has not been any official word yet on whether or not Matt Poitras has been activated from injured reserve, but this move likely suggests so. Poitras traveled with the team for this week’s games against the Winnipeg Jets and Minnesota Wild, suggesting he’s likely close to returning to game action.

Eyssimont has one year remaining on a two-year, $2,900,000 contract he signed last summer, which carries an annual average value of $1,450,000. The move leaves the Bruins with 13 forwards and eight defensemen on the active roster, with Charlie McAvoy sitting for three more games due to his six-game suspension. If Eyssimont clears waivers, he will join Alex Steeves and Henri Jokiharju as players who played 40 or more games with Boston last year, who are currently in the AHL.
