This past weekend, the Maine Mariners played their final October games against the Trois-Rivières Lions at Colisée Vidéotron in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada. After splitting their two games against the Lions, the Mariners now head to Greensboro, North Carolina, for their next three games against the Greensboro Gargoyles. Today offers a chance to win more consistently on the road.

The Mariners head to First Horizon Coliseum to face the Gargoyles. Today’s puck drop is early, at 10:30 a.m. ET. Today also marks the first of three consecutive games between the Mariners and Gargoyles in Greensboro. After the three games in Greensboro, the Mariners and Gargoyles won’t meet again until April 2027 at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine.

This past Friday, the Mariners and Lions played the first game of their back-to-back. After the game was tied at one after two periods, forward Robert Cronin scored 3:12 into the third period to give the Mariners a 2-1 lead. However, with under 20 seconds remaining, Lions forward Mathieu Bizier tied the game at two to force overtime. At 3:32 of overtime, forward Linus Hemstrom scored the game-winner, giving the Mariners a 3-2 win. In the win, forward Max Andreev recorded two assists and goaltender Luke Cavallin made 34 saves.

Unfortunately for the Mariners, the team disappointed the next day, losing 4-2 to the Lions. Mariners forward Jack Works scored the opening goal just 2:51 into the first period, then the Lions scored four unanswered goals. Former Mariner Brooklyn Kalmikov scored two of the Lions’ goals. Mariners forward Wyllum Deveaux scored to make it 4-2 with 2:15 remaining in regulation, but it was too late for a comeback win. Both Works and Deveaux scored and assisted on each other’s goals, while goaltender Max Lundgren made 17 saves in the loss.

A Look at the Opponent

The Gargoyles enter today’s game with a 2-2-2 record. The Gargoyles are on a two-game winning streak after beating the Norfolk Admirals on the road and at home this past weekend. In their last game against the Admirals this past Sunday, the Admirals won 4-1 at home. After losing their first three home games, the Gargoyles have won their last two at home.

Forward Parker Lindauer leads the Gargoyles with nine points and six assists, and was recently named the Inglasco ECHL player of the week for Oct. 26 to Nov. 1. Forward Ethan Leyh has the second-most points on the Gargoyles’ roster with seven, and his four goals lead the team. Austen May leads all Gargoyles defensemen with three goals, two assists, five points, and a +3 rating. Goaltender Yegor Velmakin is off to a solid start, posting a 2.20 GAA and a .933 save percentage in four games played.

Last Season’s Success Against Greensboro

The Mariners defeated the Gargoyles in the two games they played in Portland last season. The Mariners won 3-2 in the first game behind Andreev’s two-goal game, then dominated the second game with a 6-0 win. The Mariners scored five goals in the second period, and Cavallin recorded a 16-save shutout.
