Before Saturday afternoon’s showdown against the Florida Panthers, the Boston Bruins gave out their annual NESN 7th Player Award — presented to the Bruin who exceeds the expectations of Bruins fans during the season.
This year, defensemean Charlie McAvoy was voted to win the award by a fan vote on NESN.com.
The 20-year-old has had a fantastic rookie season, becoming one of the team’s most dependable players. He ranks second on the team in ice time with 22:06 minutes per game and is also second in goals scored (7) and assists (25).
To add to his impressive stats, McAvoy leads all rookie defenseman in plus/minus with a +26 rating as well as points-per-game with .54.
The D-man was selected 14 overall by the B’s in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft and burst onto the scene and into the hearts of Boston fans in the 2016-17 NHL playoffs where he collected three assists through six games against the Ottawa Senators.
McAvoy is currently nursing a sprained MCL, but is set to travel with the team to Philadelphia.
