The Boston Bruins re-signed restricted free agent forward Jake DeBrusk to a two-year contract, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney announced Monday. The deal is worth an average annual value of $3.675 million.
DeBrusk was the only restricted free agent left for Boston to take care of this offseason. With this apparent bridge deal done, it seems Zdeno Chara is the only remaining uncertainty for the Bruins.
According to PuckPedia the first year of the 24-year-old’s contract will carry a salary of $2.5 million, while the second year will have a $4.85 million salary. DeBrusk will again be a restricted free agent once the deal expires; however, he will have arbitration rights, which he did not have this offseason.
In 65 games during the 2019-20 season, DeBrusk potted 19 goals and 16 assists for 35 points before the coronavirus pandemic cut the regular season short. The 6-foot, 188-pound left wing was on pace for approximately 24-20-42 totals over an 82-game pace.
Over his career with the Bruins, DeBrusk has 62-58-120 totals in 203 games. Originally selected 14th overall by Boston in the first round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, DeBrusk’s 62 goals rank fourth on the team during his time with the Bruins, his 120 points rank sixth and his 14 power play goals rank fourth, according to the team.
In 13 playoff games in 2020, the Edmonton, Alberta, native put up four goals to go along with a minus-three rating and two penalty minutes. On his career, DeBrusk has 14-9-23 numbers in 49 playoff contests.
Before becoming a full-time NHL player in 2017-18, DeBrusk put up 19 goals and 30 assists for 49 points in 74 games to go along with 30 penalty minutes and a plus-11 rating during the 2016-17 season with the Providence Bruins, Boston’s American Hockey League affiliate. In 17 playoff games for the P-Bruins, DeBrusk recorded 6-3-9 numbers.
