John Beecher the 2019 first-round selection of the Boston Bruins has been cut from the USA’s World Juniors roster. The 25 man roster was released this morning, a surprise to many that the 2001 born forward was not included. Boston Globe followed shortly after announcing the returning forward from last year’s USA squad has reportedly tested positive for Covid -19.

When the 25 man roster was announced earlier today it was a surprise to many that Beecher was not included, also not on the roster was his roommate Thomas Bordeleau. It left questions that John’s current one-game suspension left to serve from last year’s tournament could be the reason. Beecher was given a one-game suspension for a Boarding violation.

Shortly after the official roster was announced, it was reported in the Boston Globe by Beecher’s dad, Bill, that John had tested positive for the virus. A positive test will keep the near-lock out of the lineup and the tournament being held in Edmonton, Alberta. Last year Beecher didn’t record a point in the five games he appeared in and, he received a one-game suspension that he would have needed to be served before being eligible to play in this year’s tournament.

John Beecher currently a member of the Michigan Wolverines has a goal and assist in his eight games played this season. The positive Covid-19 test will keep the Bruin’s first-round selection out of the Wolverines lineup for a minimum of two weeks. A tough break for Beecher after a good start in his Sophomore season. John and Thomas have left Plymouth, Michigan and they’re on route back to the Michigan campus where they will have to quarantine for the time period set by health officials and the team.
