Today we celebrate two past Boston Bruins players, goalie Daniel Berthiaume and left-wing / defenseman Vic Lynn. Both men have interesting stories about their careers, and we will be honoring them today.
Daniel Berthiaume
On January 26, 1966, Daniel Berthiaume was born in Longueuil, Quebec. Berthiaume played for several National Hockey Leagues teams throughout his career. In the 1991-92 season, he played for the Boston Bruins and also the LA Kings. He struggled to improve as a goalie, but he was mostly a backup goalie during this season. His stats for that season totaled playing 64 games, winning 28 games, losing 25, and seven losses in overtime or shoot-outs.
With the Kings, Berthiaume served as the backup to veteran Kelly Hrudey. The Bruins had Andy Moog firmly entrenched in their starter role with veteran Rejean Lemelin as his back-up, but when Lemelin suffered a groin injury, they required some depth. The Bruins brought in Berthiaume, but he did little to help. In the offseason, eventually, the Bruins traded him to the Winnipeg Jets.
Vic Lynn
On January 26, 1925, Vic Lynn was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. He also had quite the career, but he played for Boston for two years from the 1950-51 season to the 1951-52 season. He played 68 games, had 16 goals and 8 assists. He is the only player in NHL history to play for all of the Original Six teams.
After his time with Boston, he played in the American Hockey League and then took one more shot in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks before ending his career at the end of 1953. He coached the Prince Albert Mintos of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League in 1958–59, and then in 1962–63, he coached the Saskatoon Quakers of the Southwest Saskatchewan Hockey League. Lynn passed away on December 6, 2010. He was 85.
