The National Hockey Leagues Player Safety Board has suspended Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson seven games for his blindsided hit to the head of Boston Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo. The infraction happened on Friday night at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts late in the first period. There was no call on the ice and Brandon was lucky enough to get back to his feet after several minutes on the ice but needed the steadying support of his teammates guiding him to the tunnel for medical attention.
Carlo would later need to be moved to a nearby hospital for further evaluations, and today thankfully got released per Bruins Head Coach Bruce Cassidy. The non-call on the ice was baffling, and not only did it send shockwaves across the league for its somewhat shady officiating, but it was also only a matter of time before Wilson’s troubling history of senseless acts with a seeming effort to injure. Bruce Cassidy certainly wasn’t happy about losing a valued member of his defensive staff as he expressed his feelings about the “cheap shot” during last night’s virtual press conference last night at TD Garden below.
Below is an update of Brandon Carlo from Head Coach Bruce Cassidy’s post-practice presser this afternoon. Brandon has returned home and expect further details soon about how long the 24-year-old defenseman will be out of service. In 21 games so far this season, the former Bruins selection in 2015 has 2-1-3 numbers.
