As the regular season comes to an end and with Boston gearing up for Playoff hockey, tonight’s win saw clear dominance over an understandably quiet Rangers team. It was a complete effort from the Bruins as they dictated game flow on the ice. With the win, Boston is now two points away from second place as they gain ground in the East Division.
GAME BREAKDOWN
There were some early looks from the Bruins’ top two lines that saw both Brad Marchand and Taylor Hall creating scoring chances. Strong puck handling kept the Rangers at bay as Boston looked to build off their momentum. After a few aggressive shots courtesy of Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron, the Bruins Captain snapped one in, giving Boston an early lead. Brad Marchand was credited with the assist. Shortly after, the Bruins would be on the man advantage as Libor Hajek was sent to the penalty box for a high-sticking infraction against Jake DeBrusk.
No score during the powerplay from either team. The boys in black and gold continued to hustle towards the Rangers’ net as they controlled the puck throughout the period. Ryan Strome would be called for tripping against Jake DeBrusk giving the Bruins their second powerplay of the night. With seconds left to the man advantage, Charlie McAvoy would slap a one-timer past Shesterkin, making the score 2-0.

SHOTS ON GOAL; BOS-9, NYR 4
Boston’s control of the game continued as the second period opened up. A bad turnover from the Rangers gave the Bruins a great opportunity to cushion their lead however Shesterkin was able to block the shot. A loose puck in the Rangers net caused some traffic build-up forcing their goaltender to quickly smother the play. Jake DeBrusk ultimately took advantage of defensive breakdowns as he roofed the puck in thus ending his scoring drought. Boston would extend their lead to 3-0.
A crazy bounce that caused Boston’s goaltender Jeremy Swayman to position himself outside the crease caused a moment of anxiety as the Rangers tried to muster up a scoring chance in the last few seconds of the game.

SHOTS ON GOAL: BOS-19, NYR-3
In his second game back with the Bruins after suffering an injury, Brandon Carlo scored his third goal of the season, making it 4-0. David Krejci would be credited with the assist.
With a little over three minutes left to the period, the Boston Bruins continued to limit the Rangers’ scoring chances. In the last minute of the final period, Boston would be down a player as Brandon Carlo was called for cross-checking against Phillip Di Giuseppe. The Bruins would win their fifth game against the Rangers while Jeremy Swayman gets his second shutout of the year.
