The Providence Bruins season has ended. Writing this article is always sad. The Providence Bruins ended their regular season 36-25-5-6 (83 points). That was good enough to get Providence third place in the Atlantic Division and a favorable matchup in the first round of the playoffs. The sixth seed Bridgeport Islanders were the first-round matchup for the Providence Bruins. Despite being a division foe, it was a matchup the Bruins should have won. However, sometimes in hockey, that’s just the way it goes.

The Providence Bruins ended the year with one of the top defenses in the AHL, giving up only 2.66 goals a game. The problem is they only scored 2.76 goals a game. Our boys in black and gold also took way too many penalties, ending the year with 898 penalty minutes. Despite the disappointing end of the season, there were a lot of positives to come out of the year. Mainly there are players that we can be excited about going forward.

My Players To Be Excited About Moving Forward

Oskar Steen: Oskar Steen had a breakout season for the Providence Bruins. In 49 games with Providence, Steen scored 15 goals while dishing out 20 assists for 35 total points. Steen also played 20 games in Boston, scoring two goals and dishing out four assists for six total points. Steen could potentially compete for a spot in Boston next season.

Jack Ahcan: Jack Ahcan had an excellent season with the Providence Bruins. The young defenseman took a big step forward from last year. In 46 games, Ahcan scored six goals while dishing out 17 assists for 23 total points. He also played six games in Boston, scoring one goal with the big club. Ahcan is someone we could see playing in Boston very soon.

Victor Berglund: Victor Berglund had an excellent season for Providence. The young defenseman started the year in the ECHL with the Maine Mariners. Berglund scored one goal while dishing out three assists for four total points in his three games with Maine. In 46 games with Providence, the young defenseman’s offensive game flourished, scoring six goals while dishing out 12 assists for 18 total points. Berglund is still only 22, he probably has a few seasons left with Providence, but he’s someone who could eventually contribute in Boston.

John Beecher: John Beecher was a first-round pick of the Boston Bruins in 2019. After spending three seasons with the University of Michigan, the Bruins signed Beecher to an ATO for the rest of the 2021-2022 season. Beecher played in nine games with Providence, scoring three goals and dishing out two assists for five total points. The young forward looked good in limited time in the AHL. He’s a player to watch out for next season.

Eduards Tralmaks: Eduards Tralmaks is not a big-name prospect. Tralmaks was an undrafted college free agent signing of the Providence Bruins. The young forward is one of my favorites because of his time at the University of Maine. I have a soft spot for players who spent time in my home state. Tralmaks played in two games with Maine in the ECHL, scoring four goals while dishing out three assists for seven total points. The Latvian forward played in 51 games with Providence, scoring 14 goals while dishing out 13 assists for 27 total points.

As you can see, despite the abrupt end to their season, there are reasons to be excited about both Providence and Boston. The Providence Bruins may not have had the season we wanted, but players developed and got better. That’s what you want from players in the AHL.
