It was announced Wednesday morning that the Bruins are naming Brad Marchand the 27th captain in franchise history. Marchand will be taking over for the recently retired Patrice Bergeron, who served as the captain for three seasons from 2020-2023

Marchand has worn the A on his jersey, serving as an alternate captain for the last three seasons, and now it will be a C. The pesky left winger has been a well-respected member and leader in the Bruins dressing room for some time and has definitely earned this role with the team.

Despite having a controversial reputation around the league for past incidents on the ice, he is said to be one of the most genuine guys there is off the ice. So It’s no surprise Marchand will be the next Bruins captain. He has come a long way, and most Bruins fans will say he has certainly matured immensely since his rookie season in 2010-11.

Now 35 years old and heading into his 15th NHL season, Marchand remains one of the top left wingers in the league. The Bruins organization has a lot of respect and gratitude for his contributions over the years, or else he would not have been selected for this role.

Marchand has been with Boston since Zedano Chara was the captain and established a welcoming and accepting culture that has remained intact for several years. Marchand is, without a doubt, a guy who understands that and will surely keep things that way during his captaincy.
