As August dwindles, the ECHL Maine Mariners have stayed active this summer in free agency. Over the last week, the Mariners organization announced that forward Christian Sarlo, forward Patrick Guay, and defenseman Alex Sheehy will join the team. This brings the roster closer to completion with 15 players on board.

Sarlo returns to Portland after playing ten games with the Mariners last season. While it was a short window, he did produce three goals and three assists. Sarlo spent four years at Penn State University, playing with fellow Mariners Christian Berger and Xander Lamppa.

Guay is the newcomer of the three signings after spending the 2023-24 campaign between the AHL Henderson Silver Knights and the ECHL Savannah Ghost Pirates. A former 2022 fifth-round selection of the Vegas Golden Knights, Guay scored 11 goals and 18 assists in 25 games for Savannah. Producing over a point per game during his two ECHL stints, Guay will provide an exciting scoring punch to the forward group.

Defenseman Alex Sheehy returns for his second pro season. He skated in 35 games for the Mariners last season, adding six assists. Before joining the Mariners, Sheehy played three seasons of college hockey for the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. In 68 total games, he scored six goals and 29 assists.

The Mariners also announced the return of the Maine Mariners Coach’s Show at Three Dollar Deweys in Portland, Maine. Head Coach Terrence Wallin will kick it off this Friday, August 30th. The calendar continues to tick closer to opening night. The Mariners will drop the puck on Friday, October 18th, versus the Wheeling Nailers, Pittsburgh Penguins ECHL affiliate.
