The Boston Bruins announced today that the team has signed forward Patrick Brown to a one-year, two-way contract extension. The 32-year-old Michigan native has been with the B’s organization for two seasons and will carry a National Hockey League salary cap hit of $775,000 next season.
In 56 games played for the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins this season, the undrafted versatile forward posted 17-29-46 numbers and had one assist in 15 games at the NHL level when recalled. Brown has been the team’s captain for the 2024-25 season and has been a valuable asset and extension to B’s Head Coach Ryan Mougenel’s bench. In 500 career AHL games, the son of former NHL’er Doug Brown contributed 91-141-232 numbers, and in his NHL career, he appeared in 164 contests and posted 10-16-26 totals.
While Brown will challenge at the NHL level in the upcoming Bruins training camp for a roster position, if he doesn’t make the team out of camp, this is a sneakingly good signing to keep the veteran around for another year. Brown, along with several other teammates, has been the backbone of leadership on the team. Many players fortunate to come up to the NHL have mentioned a leader like Patrick as someone they can lean on, acting like a sponge with any problems younger players might have as they continue to cut their teeth in minor-pro hockey.
Brown and the top minor-pro affiliate of the Boston Bruins are in Charlotte, North Carolina, tomorrow night to face the Charlotte Checkers. The Checkers have a 2-0 second-round Calder Cup Playoff best-of-five series lead over the Bruins, who lost the first two games at the Amica Mutual Pavilion on Friday night, 5-1, and Sunday night got shut out 2-0. Puck drop in game three from the Bojangles Coliseum is set for 7 pm on Wednesday, May 7th, 2025. Providence needs to make a courageous effort on the road to get back in this series, and it starts by getting to work on time and making a complete 60-minute effort.
