A crucial off-season for the Boston Bruins is off to a less-than-ideal start. Disaster struck for the B’s Monday Night as the Bruins fell two slots in the 2025 National Hockey League Entry Draft due to the New York Islanders and Utah Hockey Club winning the first and fourth overall picks. Boston entered the night with the fifth-best odds of landing the top pick at 8.5%. While picking seventh overall isn’t the worst thing in the world, it was the worst result possible for the Boston Bruins on Lottery night.

While dreams of Michael Misa and Matthew Schaefer are no longer realistic, there is reason to believe the Bruins could still land an impact player with their first-round pick. Players such as Clayton Keller, Quinn Hughes, and Matvei Michkov have been selected seventh overall in recent years.

The projected Draft Board tends to change between now and Draft day, as teams have opportunities to interview prospects and get to know them off the ice to get a better idea of who might fit best in their respective organizations. However, as things stand, several players could be in play at seventh overall. Bob McKenzie of TSN had center prospect Jake O’Brien at seven in his latest draft rankings.

Roger McQueen could also be an option at seven for Boston. He is a skilled center with upside who had a challenging draft year. There are lots of concerns about durability due to his lengthy injury history. However, according to many scouts, he does have top-ten talent. I wrote about him back in April, which you can read here. It’s also possible that a player like Brady Martin rises into the top seven conversation after a monster tournament at the U18’s where he won a Gold Medal with Team Canada. Martin is believed to be the best body checker in this draft class, and has a good amount of skill to go with it.

Regardless of who rises or falls, the Bruins know where they stand ahead of this summer’s Draft. The organization must nail this pick, its highest selection since 2010 when they selected Tyler Seguin second overall. Draft day, June 27th, is only 53 days away. The clock is ticking.
