The Boston Bruins and forward Tanner Jeannot have reportedly agreed on a five-year, $17 million contract with a $3.4 million AAV, according to multiple sources. Jeannot, 28, is a grinding bottom-six forward known for his physicality. In 67 games with the Los Angeles Kings last season, he recorded 13 points and racked up 211 hits, which placed him 25th in the league. A veteran of 294 games, Jeannot has 93 career points along with 1,083 hits and 403 penalty minutes.
Jeannot burst onto the scene in the 2021-22 season with the Nashville Predators. In 81 games, he recorded 24-17-41, a point total he has yet to reach again. That season, he had 130 penalty minutes, which was third in the league behind teammate Mark Borowiecki. His physical style of play prompted Tampa Bay to acquire him at the 2023 trade deadline before flipping him to Los Angeles after 75 games ahead of last seasons.
After his seventh-place Calder Trophy finish in 2021-22, Jeannot has shifted into more of a typical grinder. With over 200 hits a season for the last three seasons, his physical play is a welcomed addition to any team’s bottom-six. While the penalty kill time-on-ice has diminished over the previous couple of seasons, his value to a team’s bottom-six is still evident and his ability to lay punishing checks to opposing players is one of the best in the league.
As a bottom-six forward, Jeannot excels in setting the tone physically with booming hits and being difficult to play against, similarly to former Bruins of the past. With an five-year contract, Don Sweeney and his staff have locked up a player who fits the Bruins’ mold of a bottom-six and adds some grit and intensity alongside Mark Kastelic.
