The ECHL Maine Mariners celebrated a historic milestone on Friday night as forward Brooklyn Kalmikov broke the team’s all-time record for career games played. Skating in his 194th contest as a Mariner, Kalmikov etched his name in the franchise record books and played a pivotal role in a 6-3 home victory over the visiting Norfolk Admirals at the Cross Insurance Arena in downtown Portland, Maine.
At just 24 years old, the St. John’s, Newfoundland native has become a cornerstone of the Mariners’ lineup, known for his skill, consistency, and leadership on and off the ice. Since joining the Mariners, Kalmikov has amassed an impressive 64 goals and 100 assists for 164 points, illustrating his impact and reliability every time he hits the ice.
Kalmikov’s achievement is not only a testament to his durability and commitment but also a reflection of his continued growth as a professional in a league where you have year-to-year contracts, and in some cases, week-to-week. His performance has kept him firmly in the sights of the Boston Bruins’ minor-pro system, particularly with the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins, where he continues to showcase his talents and earn opportunities at higher levels. When recalled to Providence, the left-shooting versatile winger has zero points in five career AHL games with the B’s.
Friday night’s game was a fitting backdrop for the milestone, as the Mariners delivered a strong team effort to outpace the Admirals. The energetic Cross Insurance Arena crowd in Portland, Maine, was treated to a fast-paced contest, with Kalmikov’s record-setting appearance adding extra excitement to the Mariners’ convincing win.
Kalmikov finished the night notching his 17th multi-point game of the season, but was far from the only player who produced in last night’s win. Forward Sebastien Vidmar had two goals in the victory over the Admirals. Forward Max Andreev had a two-point effort with two assists in the game. Finishing off all the Mariners’ offense last night was forward Zach Jordan, who had two points with a goal and an assist. Mariners netminder Luke Cavallin got the start and won last night, stopping 23 of 26 Admirals shots to extend his regular-season record to 17-9-3 with a 2.27 goals-against-average and .919 save percentage.
With last night’s victory for the Mariners, the “AA” ECHL minor-pro affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins improved their regular-season record to 40-19-6 in 69 games played. Maine currently sits in second place in the North Division with 89 points, a franchise best, and, in the Eastern Conference landscape, the Mariners are fifth with four games remaining in the 2025-26 regular season.
The Mariners are back in action tonight, once again hosting the Norfolk Admirals in game two of three this weekend up in the Portland, Maine area.
