Last night, the Boston Bruins traded away their 23rd overall selection in the first round of the 2026 National Hockey League Draft to use it in a trade to acquire Utah Mammoth forward JJ Peterka. Heading into day two of the draft, the first pick for general manager Don Sweeney would be pivotal for the Bruins.
With the 56th overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, the Bruins selected goaltender Yuri Ivanov of the MHL League in Russia. Ivanov was the second goaltender drafted in the 2026 NHL Draft.
Ivanov is 17 years old and a native of Moscow, Russia. Ivanov spent the 2025-26 season with the Moscow Spartak Jr., where he recorded a 13-3-1 record with a 2.62 GAA and a .924 save percentage in 17 games. Ivanov also played nine games for the Moscow Spartak Jr. MHA team, where he recorded a 3-6-0 record with a 2.62 GAA and a .928 save percentage. Ivanov also played two games for Russia’s U18 team.
Ivanov is a left-handed goaltender who is 6’2″ and weighs 165 lbs. Ivanov can track the puck and make big saves when needed. Ivanov is the first goaltender the Bruins drafted since Reid Dyck in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Draft.
