The Boston Bruins have made their first trade of the summer, sending prospect Andre Gasseau and pick #120 to the San Jose Sharks for picks #104 and #157 in the 2026 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Gasseau spent the past season as captain of Boston College, where he had 23 points in 23 games. The Bruins drafted Gasseau #213th overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. The Garden Grove, California, native was not going to sign with the Bruins, and now he moves closer to home, while the Bruins pick up more draft capital.

Barring another trade involving picks in this year’s draft, this will be the first draft since 2015 where the Bruins owned eight or more selections. The Bruins still possess three picks in the fourth round of this year’s draft, and also add a fifth-round draft pick. The move could potentially open up a path for the B’s to trade up into the third round, or stand pat and try and land some prospects who might fall out of the top 100.

Losing Gasseau hurts, as he was developed in the Bruins’ backyard and has some promise as a potential bottom-six forward in the NHL, but turning a player drafted in the 7th round into a pick just outside the top 100 is not a terrible outcome. It will be interesting to see what the next few days and weeks bring for the Bruins, as I can’t imagine they’re done dealing.
