The Providence Bruins have had a quiet August in terms of offseason news, as forward Cross Hanas was the team’s last signing on Aug. 7. However, Providence has now added depth to its roster. Today, Providence signed forward Josh Bloom to a one-year, two-way contract.
Bloom, 23, is a native of Oakville, Ontario, and was the 95th overall pick in the 2021 National Hockey League Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. At 6’2″, 190 lbs, Bloom brings good speed for his size. Since being drafted, Bloom has never played in an NHL game. In the OHL 2022-23 season, Bloom served as captain of the Saginaw Spirit. Since the 2024-25 season, Bloom has bounced between the American Hockey League and the ECHL.
Last season, Bloom played for two different teams in both the ECHL and AHL. Bloom wrapped up last season in the ECHL with the Fort Wayne Komets, recording nine points in 11 games. Bloom recorded five points, four of which were goals, in 13 games during the 2026 Kelly Cup Playoffs for Fort Wayne.
In his ECHL career, Bloom has recorded 78 points in 81 games. In his AHL career, Bloom has recorded five points in 38 games. Now, Bloom has a fresh start in Providence for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
