The Maine Mariners have played three games so far in the 2026-27 ECHL season and currently hold a 2-1 record. This weekend, the Mariners are scheduled for a back-to-back on the road at Colisée Vidéotron against the Trois-Rivières Lions in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. However, before the back-to-back, the Mariners recently acquired forward Mark Liwiski from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League.

Liwiski, 25, is a native of Dauphin, Manitoba. Liwiski played in the ECHL for two seasons, from 2022 to 2024, with the Wichita Thunder and Norfolk Admirals. Liwiski has played in the AHL since the 2023-24 season, including 50 games with the Manitoba Moose. Last season, Liwiski spent the entire AHL season with the Iowa Wild, scoring four goals.

Throughout his career, Liwiski has been known for high penalty minutes and fighting. With the Admirals in the 2023-24 ECHL season, Liwiski recorded career highs of 11 goals, 14 assists, 25 points, and 310 penalty minutes. Last season with the Wild, Liwiski’s 243 penalty minutes were the second-most in the AHL, two fewer than Coachella Valley Firebirds forward Ian McKinnon. Liwiski was one of three AHL players last season who had at least 200 penalty minutes.

The Mariners are getting a player who will stick up for teammates and play physical games like Liwiski. The Mariners are now Liwiski’s third different ECHL team in his career.
