This past weekend, the Providence Bruins played back-to-back games at Giant Center in their first road games of the 2026-27 American Hockey League season, splitting two games against the Hershey Bears. After falling 5-3 in the first game, the Bruins rebounded with a dominant 6-1 win, highlighted by forward Mikey Eyssimont’s hat trick. After four days off, the Bruins got ready for their second meeting this season against the Hartford Wolf Pack.

The Bruins were eager to erase the 2-0 loss from their first meeting 14 days ago, but the result was the same. The Wolf Pack blanked the Bruins 2-0 at PeoplesBank Arena. The Bruins fell to 2-6, and the Wolf Pack snapped their five-game losing streak. In six periods, the Bruins haven’t scored against the Wolf Pack this season.

First Period

Despite the Bruins outshooting the Wolf Pack by ten, the teams headed to the intermission scoreless. Wolf Pack goaltender James Reimer was sharp, making 14 saves, while Bruins goaltender Simon Zajicek made four saves. The Bruins failed on the period’s only power-play attempt.

Second Period

Like the first, the second period was scoreless, with the Bruins applying solid pressure on Reimer and keeping the Wolf Pack’s offense quiet. Reimer made 12 saves, while the Wolf Pack recorded just three shots on goal and struggled to generate offensive chances. Each team had a power play opportunity but failed. With under ten seconds remaining, Bruins forward Dans Locmelis was called for a hooking penalty, but the Wolf Pack failed to score before the period ended.

Third Period

The Bruins had to kill off the remaining 1:52 of Locmelis’ penalty to begin the third period. However, 57 seconds into the period, Wolf Pack forward Liam Greentree scored the game’s first goal on the power play. Greentree’s goal was the Wolf Pack’s eighth shot on goal at the time, and it marked the seventh time in eight games in which the Bruins allowed the first goal. After seven combined shots on goal through the first two periods, the Wolf Pack’s offense was better to begin the third period, recording six shots on goal in the opening 6:26.

At 8:14, the Bruins got a power-play opportunity to tie the game but failed to score again. In a last-ditch effort, Providence pulled Zajicek for the extra attacker late with under two minutes remaining in the period, but Wolf Pack forward Carey Terrance iced the game with an empty-net goal. Wolf Pack forward Glenn Gawdin recorded an assist on both games, and Reimer recorded a 35-save shutout. In the loss, Zajicek made 15 saves.

Quick Turnaround

The Bruins close out the back-to-back tomorrow night as they host the Utica Comets at Amica Mutual Pavilion, with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET. Tomorrow’s game marks the second meeting between the Bruins and Comets in Providence in 22 days. In the season opener on Oct. 2, the Comets defeated the Bruins 2-1. In the loss, forward Brendan Gaunce scored the Bruins’ lone goal, and Jiri Patera made 22 saves.
