The ECHL Maine Mariners announced a trade with the Toledo Walleye for defenseman Cole Cameron. Toledo receives forward Griffin Ness in return. Currently, the Mariners have six defensemen signed for the upcoming season.

Before joining Toledo, Cameron played three seasons at the University of Guelph and one season at Toronto Metropolitan University, playing in 89 games and scoring 26 points. He also spent three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, playing for Owen Sound, North Bay, and Kitchener. The 26-year-old right-shot defenseman played eight games for the Walleye last season with zero points.

Forward Griffin Ness experienced his first taste of professional hockey last season with the Mariners, appearing in two games. Before joining Maine, Ness was a four-year player at the University of North Dakota. The Minnesota native played in 111 games during that time, scoring ten goals and ten assists.

On Thursday, the Mariners announced that forward Sebastian Vidmar re-signed for another season. He joined Maine last season after a trade from the Savannah Ghost Pirates. Vidmar scored eleven goals and twenty assists in 62 combined ECHL games during the 2023-24 season. Unfortunately, injuries kept the Sweden native from the playoff roster for the Mariners.

With nineteen players signed, the Mariners’ roster is close to completion. The season kicks off Friday, October 18th, versus the Wheeling Nailers at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland. Visit the marinersofmaine.com website for schedule and ticket information.
