With the 92nd pick in the 2023 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney selected Chris Pelosi from the United States Hockey League. This pick was a strong choice for the team, as Pelosi has already demonstrated significant potential. The Sewell, New Jersey native is one of the standout players in college hockey and has the potential to lead his Quinnipiac Bobcats to the National Championship, a goal he is determined to achieve. His potential is a beacon of hope for the team and his fans.

After his season with the Sioux Falls Stampede, Pelosi arrived on the Quinnipiac campus in Hamden, Connecticut, eager to impact the hockey program. The Bobcats were a vastly different team from the one that won the National Championship in 2023. They had lost their top line—Collin Graf, Jacob Quillian, and Sam Lipkin—all of whom moved on to their respective NHL clubs. These players were key to the team’s success, and their departure left a significant void. Other key players, such as Charles Alexis-Legault and goaltender Vinni Duplessis had also departed, leaving the team in a rebuilding phase.

Quinnipiac’s Head Coach, Rand Pecknold, faced a significant challenge but made substantial additions through the transfer portal, including two former Boston College Eagles: Charlie Leddy and Dylan Silverstein. Another notable addition was Jack Ricketts, the former captain of Holy Cross. Despite these key signings, the team would heavily depend on newcomers like Pelosi to help elevate their performance.

The Bobcats faced early challenges as they tried to find their rhythm, which involved building chemistry among many new players. Despite this slow start, Pelosi performed admirably as he adapted to the college game. Past coaches have praised Chris for his resilience, so the initial lack of scoring didn’t raise any concerns. By Christmas Break, the former Mount St. Charles product had recorded two goals and three assists, totaling five points in 15 games. Additionally, he was invited to USA Hockey’s World Junior Championship main camp, where he, unfortunately, was one of the last cuts from the roster.

Since being left off the roster, Pelosi has stepped up, consistently finding his name on the score sheet each night. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound forward has excelled with the puck, proving to be both a goal scorer and a strong assist provider. He has posed a significant challenge for opposing teams trying to contain his talent. In the last 15 games, Chris has recorded nine goals and five assists, totaling 14 points. Pelosi recorded four points this past weekend and earned East Coast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week honors. His performance has been crucial in positioning the Bobcats for a serious playoff impact. His confidence has skyrocketed, and he isn’t afraid to showcase his skills. He appears to be gripping the stick more loosely, allowing the game to come to him.

Before the season began, the Cornell Big Red was favored to win the ECAC Regular Season award, according to the coaches’ poll. However, Quinnipiac now controls its destiny with several games remaining in the season. They will secure the regular season championship against all odds if they win their last four games. Chris Pelosi has played a significant part in the team’s success and is a player to watch for the future. He appears to be a steal for the third round, and Bruins fans eagerly anticipate his arrival in the organization.
