Several European players from the National Hockey League were selected to head overseas to participate in the European Media Tour. 26 players were selected, including Bruins’ defenseman Hampus Lindholm.
Lindholm, 31, missed the majority of the 2024-25 season due to a fractured knee cap. Only appearing in 17 games this past season, losing Lindholm was a major blow to the blue line and a major reason as to why the Bruins struggled, especially in their own zone. Now, thanks to confirmation from Kevin Paul Dupont, Lindholm is 100 percent ready to go for training camp come September 17th.

A healthy Lindholm will be a major bolster to the left side, especially considering he’s the Bruins number one left handed defensemen. His return will allow Zadorov to settle into the left side on second-pair, and will allow Lohrei to continue to develop on the third pairing without the added pressure to step up and fill the gaps like he had to do in 2024-25.
Lindholm appeared on the 32 Thoughts Podcast with Elliotte Friedman and Kyle Bukauskas, and was asked by Friedman how he was feeling. Lindholm responded, saying “I’m doing great! Yeah, it’s been obviously frustrating for me personally and for the team, but I’ve had a lot of time to kind of refocus and kind of come back here and get going for this season and coming back to full health, if not even better.”
Lindholm went on to add that, “That’s been my focus, and I’ve been skating with Rogle. They’re in training camp now, so I’ve been fortunate to be able to pick up the pace there a lot, and get contact and play like full games and stuff. So that makes it way easier for me to kind of in my rehab process and skating, and it’s been feeling great. So I’m excited about the season.” In the podcast below, Lindholm’s interview begins at 1:48:29.
Lindholm was acquired at the 2022 trade deadline from the Anaheim Ducks, and the next day, signed an eight-year extension with the Black and Gold. He’s heading into his fourth year of his contract with the Bruins, which carries an annual average value of $6.5 million. As the cap continues to rise, it’s proving more and more to be a bargain deal for Boston.
Lindholm is a puck moving, offensive defenseman. His puck moving ability makes him a strong candidate to quarterback the powerplay, and that was an area of their game they were really lacking in. While he’ll be a major addition on the ice, his off-ice presence in the locker room was sorely missed, and he commented on the Bruins’ identity heading into this season.
Friedman asked Lindholm what he saw when he watched from the sidelines, as well as asking what the Bruins need to improve on heading into this season. Lindholm went on to say “we talked a lot about the Boston culture… we need to, earlier this year, find our way of how we’re going to play with the guys we have in this locker room, because it’s, every year is unique.”
Lindholm would go on to add that there’s certainly a culture in the locker room and a way that they play, but getting guys to buy into that culture and style of play is going to be crucial this upcoming season. Lindholm added that “it was hard to really see what our identity was in a way, and I think that’s what we need to get back to.”
Lindholm has his priorities in order as he gets set for the upcoming 2025-26 NHL season. If he’s able to stay healthy throughout the season, he’ll be a major addition to both the Bruins’ blueline, and the Bruins’ locker room.
