This week was an incredibly successful one for the Boston Bruins organization. The big club went 3-0-0 this week, marking a successful start to the Marco Sturm era. The P-Bruins went 2-0-0 this weekend, with both wins requiring comebacks and getting significant contributions from younger players. Finally, this week also saw multiple of the B’s top prospects record individual milestones. So, how did everybody do?

Europe

Vashek Blanar this week for HV71 U20 (U20 Nationell): Two games played, no points, +1 rating, four penalty minutes.

Kirill Yemelyanov this week for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl (MHL): Two games played, one goal, two assists, even plus/minus, no penalty minutes.

After being held without a point last week, Yemelyanov bounced back in a big way, with a three-point night against SKA-1946. The Irkutsk, Russia, native has 12 points in as many games for Lokomotiv this season.

Juniors

Cole Chandler this week for the Shawinigan Cataractes (QMJHL): One game played, one assist, +1 rating, no penalty minutes.

Cooper Simpson this week for the Youngstown Phantoms (USHL): Two games played, one goal, one assist, -3 rating, ten penalty minutes.

Simpson’s stat line at the moment is a bit crazy. In eight games, he has nine points and 26 penalty minutes. It’s worth noting that two ten-minute misconduct penalties inflate his penalty-minute total, and he probably will not finish near the 202 penalty minutes that he’s currently on pace for. He has a good chance of achieving his projected point total of 70, however.

NCAA

Andre Gasseau this week for Boston College (Hockey East): Two games played, no points, -1 rating, no penalty minutes.

Elliott Groenewold this week for Quinnipiac University (ECAC): Two games played, one assist, +3 rating, two penalty minutes.

James Hagens this week for Boston College (Hockey East): Two games played, two assists, +2 rating, no penalty minutes.

Hagens had another solid weekend for BC, posting two assists, as well as having a goal called back for being offside. While his offensive numbers haven’t popped just yet, BC has played one of the most difficult schedules in the country to date, and I’d expect his point totals to increase in the next few weeks.

Beckett Hendrickson this week for the University of Minnesota (Big Ten): Two games played, one assist, -1 rating, no penalty minutes.

Kristian Kostadinski this week for Boston College (Hockey East): Two games played, no points, even plus/minus, no penalty minutes.

Dean Letourneau this week for Boston College (Hockey East): Two games played, one goal, one assist, +1 rating, no penalty minutes.

Letourneau finally buried his first collegiate goal this weekend against Minnesota, and it couldn’t have come at a better time for Boston College, tying the game with four minutes to go in the third period. Letourneau added an assist on thursday night against the Golden Gophers, and is already just one point away from tying his offensive production from last season.

William Moore this week for Boston College (Hockey East): Two games played, one goal, even plus/minus, no penalty minutes.

Moore was one of four B’s prospects who recorded their first collegiate goals this weekend. The Mississauga, Ontario, native tipped home a shot from Lukas Gustafsson to give BC the lead late in the 2nd period Thursday night against Minnesota.

Jonathan Morello this week for Boston University (Hockey East): Two games played, one goal, two assists, +2 rating, no penalty minutes.

Morello also recorded his first career goal this weekend for the Terriers. The Toronto native has three points in three games for BU, and that’s not including a goal he scored last weekend in an exhibition against RPI. The 2024 fifth-round pick is off to a good start in the NCAA.

Casper Nassen this week for Miami Ohio (NCHC): Two games played, one assist, even plus/minus, no penalty minutes.

Chris Pelosi this week for Quinnipiac University (ECAC): Two games played, one goal, +2 rating, no penalty minutes.

Philip Svedeback this week for Providence College (Hockey East): Two games played, 0-2-0 record, .862% save percentage, 4.10 goals against average.

Will Zellers this week for the University of North Dakota (NCHC): Two games played, one goal, one assist, +2 rating, no penalty minutes.

Zellers was the final B’s prospect to score their first college goal this weekend, scoring against St. Thomas. He also added an assist. The Maple Grove, Minnesota, native will need a solid start to his collegiate career to make the US World Junior Team.

Providence Update

As mentioned earlier, Providence swept the weekend this week, beating the Bridgeport Islanders and Charlotte Checkers. Fabian Lysell recorded his first professional hat-trick on Sunday against Charlotte, while Matt Poitras added four assists in the contest. Matej Blumel recorded goals in both contests, including an OT winner against Bridgeport. Company Colleague Mark Allred covered both games this weekend, and you can read his recap of Saturday’s game against Bridgeport here.
