The Boston Bruins have assigned forward Lukas Reichel to the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins after he successfully cleared the National Hockey League’s 24-hour waiver process. Reichel, a promising young forward, is expected to bolster Providence’s lineup as they look to even their second-round Calder Cup Playoff series tonight against the Springfield Thunderbirds.
Reichel cleared waivers without being claimed by another NHL club, allowing the Bruins to send him to their AHL affiliate. He arrived in Providence yesterday and is set to make an immediate impact, with his name penciled into the lineup for game two of the best-of-five series. Since joining the Boston Bruins organization in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks, the 23-year-old and former Chicago Black Hawks first-round pick has appeared in ten regular-season games with Boston, posting 1-2-3 numbers. With the Providence Bruins, Reichel has appeared in four games and contributed with 1-5-6 totals.
The Providence Bruins are looking to bounce back after pretty much not showing up after a 12-day break, taking a 3-2 defeat to the Thunderbirds in regulation on Friday, May 1st, at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. Springfield’s opening win gives them a 1-0 lead in the series, putting pressure on Providence to protect their home ice in tonight’s matchup.
