The offseason is here for the Boston Bruins, and the team has officially made its first move. Come next season, the Black and Gold will be looking a little different behind the bench.

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Boston Bruins have parted ways with Assistant Coach Jay Leach. Pagnotta further states that Leach’s contract expired following the 2025-26 season, and the team won’t be renewing it.

Leach’s tenure with the Bruins organization began all the way back in 2003 when he signed in Boston as a free agent. He spent the majority of the following four seasons with the Providence Bruins, logging 209 games and posting 11-21-32. He also appeared in two games with the Boston Bruins.

Leach rejoined the organization as a coach in the 2016-17 season, signing on as an assistant coach for the Providence Bruins. Leach was promoted to head coach the following season and remained in that role until the conclusion of the 2020-21 season.

After that, Leach took a job with the Seattle Kraken in the Pacific Northwest. There, he spent three seasons as an assistant under head coach Dave Hakstol.

Leach returned to Boston in the offseason of 2024 and served on Jim Montgomery’s staff. Over the last two years, he has served as an assistant under Montgomery, Joe Sacco, and current bench boss Marco Sturm.

In total, the Providence College alum has spent parts of 11 seasons affiliated with the Boston Bruins. He will now be able to pursue other coaching opportunities around the league.
