The Boston Bruins have reportedly re-signed defenseman Kevan Miller, according to Pierre LeBrun of TSN. The deal is apparently for one year with a value of up to $2 million depending on bonuses.
UPDATE: The contract will have a $1.25 million cap hit, per an official release from the team.
Miller technically hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent at noon on Friday, but it appears his camp and Bruins general manager Don Sweeney have come to terms on an agreement. With the move, Boston appears to be bringing back a veteran presence as an affordable depth piece to the blueline.
After signing with Boston as an undrafted free agent, the University of Vermont product has skated in 324 National Hockey League contests, recording 12-55-67 totals to go along with a plus-80 rating and 261 penalty minutes. Through 29 career playoff games with the Bruins, Miller has one goal and five assists for six points.
Prior to making the jump to Boston full-time, the right-shot defenseman skated in 154 AHL contests with Providence, posting 7-38-45 numbers as well as a plus-22 rating and 217 penalty minutes. In nine playoff games with the P-Bruins, Miller has five assists.
The 32-year-old missed the entirety of the 2019-20 season, rehabbing his right knee, which he injured in April 2019 before suffering a setback in an attempt to make a comeback for the 2019 Stanley Cup Final. Miller required a fourth surgical procedure on his knee this past June. Miller’s agent, Peter Fish, recently posted a video to Twitter, showcasing him working out and saying he’s “ready to go!”
Now that’s great news. Way to go Kevan Miller to go through what you went through you are a beast. To have the strength and fortitude to carry on even after a major setback, well let’s just put it this way.Kevan Miller is a Bruin inside and out.
