The Boston Bruins will no longer host the Buffalo Sabres for two games this weekend. The National Hockey League announced Tuesday that the league has postponed all Sabres games at least through Monday, Feb. 8.
The league cited the postponements as a result of two Sabres players entering COVID-19 protocol. The Bruins were set to square off with the Sabres at TD Garden on Saturday and Monday. Boston and Buffalo are yet to face each other this season.
“The decision was made by the league’s, NHLPA’s and club’s medical groups, who determined that more caution was warranted while the league continues to analyze test results in the coming days,” the NHL said in a statement.
According to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston, forward Taylor Hall and defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen are the two Sabres that have entered the protocol. Buffalo’s training facilities are closed until further notice, and the league is reviewing and revising the Sabres’ schedule in hopes of making a decision on next week’s games in the coming days, according to the NHL.
The Sabres are coming off a two-game, back-to-back series with the New Jersey Devils this past weekend, who now have a total of 14 players in the league’s coronavirus protocol. On Monday, the league announced all Devils games are postponed through Saturday, Feb. 6 at the earliest.
Currently, the Bruins are still scheduled to travel to Philadelphia for two games against the Flyers on Wednesday and Friday. Boston is set to next face the Sabres on on March 18 and March 20 in Buffalo.
