This afternoon the American Hockey League Providence Bruins announced that the organization and forward Alex-Olivier Voyer have agreed to a one-year extension. Voyer, a 6′-2″ 192-pound right-winger, has spent the last two seasons with the top minor-pro affiliate of the National Hockey League Boston Bruins appearing in 49 games posting 7-8-15 numbers. This season the Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada native has 2-5-7 numbers in 27 games played.

Voyer first came to the Providence Bruins, signing a two-year AHL-only contract as an undrafted free agent in April of 2020. Before signing his first professional contract, Alex-Olivier spent five seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the first three with the Rimouski Oceanic, and the final two seasons with his hometown Sherbrooke Phoenix. Voyers’ final year in the QMJHL was a season that really got the scouts circling when he posted 44-44-88 numbers in 63 games.

Voyer is the type of player that provides a physical aspect to the Providence bottom-six forward core. While he does possess some offensive skills, his grinding style and board battles are a valued asset to the Bruins minor-pro system. Alex is the type of player who has good skating abilities and endurance to wear down an opponent on any given shift. Voyer is also not one to shy away from making people pay when he believes liberties were taken against a fellow teammate.
