Oskar Steen was a sixth-round draft pick of the Boston Bruins in 2016. Since then, the young forward has played three seasons with the Providence Bruins. The 2021-2022 season was Steen’s best yet. He showcased his offensive ability and played excellent hockey. The young forward also showed us that he deserves a shot on the lineup to start next season. Let’s dive into his season.

Oskar Steen was coming off a difficult 2020-2021 season, as were most of the prospects in Providence. The Providence Bruins only played 23 games against a handful of opponents because of the pandemic. For that reason, it was essential to start the 2021-2022 season on a hot streak and put 2020-2021 in the rearview mirror. Oskar Steen did just that. He started the year scoring six goals while dishing out seven assists for 13 total points in his first 11 games. Overall, the young forward played 49 games for the Providence Bruins, scoring 15 goals while dishing out 20 assists for 35 total points. 2021-2022 was by far Steen’s best season in North America.

Steen also played in 20 games with the big club in Boston. In those 20 games, he scored two goals while dishing out four assists for six total points. As a whole, the 2021-2022 season was successful for Steen. The young forward showcased his offensive ability while also showing he wasn’t afraid to get into the dirty areas of the ice. The only real question remaining with Steen is what will he do with his new opportunity? The young forward signed a two-year one-way contract extension with the Bruins. That means they likely see him as part of the team next year.

I believe Steen will start the season in Boston. He’s shown that he can provide a spark on offense, and he plays well enough defensively. Steen would be great on the third line. Looking at the teams left in the NHL playoffs, most of them have multiple lines that can provide offense. Looking back at Boston’s last run to the Stanley Cup in 2019, one of their biggest x-factors was a third line that produced offense. Steen can help provide that for Boston’s third line. I think Steen’s ceiling is probably an offensive third-line player. I know that may seem underwhelming, but those players are valuable to any team.

Oskar Steen had an excellent 2021-2022 season. His game took a huge step forward. Next season, I believe Steen’s game can take another leap forward and be a mainstay on the Bruins’ third line. As the off-season continues, I will write more reviews of prospects in Providence. I believe that Providence has a handful of players that could play important roles with the 2022-2023 Boston Bruins. Oskar Steen is one of those players. He provides one of the best opportunities for the team to be successful next season. As the days get longer and the weather gets better, I hope everyone continues to have a great off-season. Feel free to send me any comments or questions on Twitter. As always, GO, Bs, GO!
