The Providence Bruins announced this morning that they have agreed to terms on a One-Year American Hockey League contract with forward Brooklyn Kalmikov. The signing comes a day after they announced that forward Joey Abate would be returning to the P-Bruins on a two-year deal.
A native of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Kalmikov has spent the past two seasons with the Maine Mariners, the Boston Bruins’ ECHL affiliate. Kalmikov played in 66 regular-season games with the Mariners this season, scoring 22 goals and adding 34 assists for 56 points, with a -26 rating. The 6’0″, 174-pound left-handed shot can play both right and left wing.
Kalmikov does have some AHL experience under his belt. Prior to joining the Mariners, Kalmikov split the 2022-23 season between the AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the ECHL Wheeling Nailers, appearing in three games with the Penguins. Kalmikov did not have any points or penalties and was a -2 in that time.
Before turning pro, Kalmikov played five seasons of Major Junior Hockey in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League, appearing in 273 games with the Cape Breton Eagles, Victoriaville Tigres, and Moncton Wildcats. Over the course of his QMJHL career, he scored 108 goals and 104 assists for 212 points. He was selected 15th overall in the 2017 QMJHL Entry Draft by Cape Breton.
