Don Sweeney is working hard this weekend to assemble the Boston Bruins roster for the 2025-26 season. On Sunday afternoon, Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald reported that the Bruins will not tender a qualifying offer to forward Jakub Lauko. Lauko will enter the free agent market on July 1 as an unrestricted free agent.
The Bruins drafted Jakub Lauko in the third round of the 2018 draft. He broke onto the Providence Bruins roster during the 2019-20 season and made his Boston Bruins debut on October 12, 2022. At the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, Lauko was traded to Minnesota for Vinni Lettieri and a fourth-round pick swap, but his time in St. Paul did not last long as he was traded back to Boston at the 2025 trade deadline in the Justin Brazeau trade.
The Czech-born forward scored twice in his return to Boston this season and added three assists in the 18 games he played in the black and gold. In May, Lauko played for Team Czechia at the IIHF World Championships, scoring a goal and tallying an assist through seven games. Throughout his NHL career, Lauko has played 101 games for the Bruins and another 38 in Minnesota.
Lauko, a 6’1” forward, has filled a role in Boston. He provided energy and speed to the fourth line and could garner attention this week as a bottom-six option in free agency. The Bruins will now focus on their remaining unrestricted and restricted free agents before the free agency window opens, Morgan Geekie and John Beecher are the two remaining restricted free agents from the NHL roster.
